What is Platelet-Rich Plasma PRP?

PRP birmingham

Regardless of whether you are new to the concept of Platelet-Rich Plasma PRP or a seasoned veteran, you may be wondering what this medical treatment is all about and how it can help you. You might be a little leery about it but rest assured that this is a safe and effective way to improve you complexion, deal with acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and rejuvenate your skin!

The process begins with blood being drawn from the patient. The blood is then centrifuged and separated into platelets and plasma. The platelets then contain proteins that are important for healing.

These platelets are then injected into the injured area to stimulate the regeneration of the affected tissues. In some cases, more than one injection is needed to achieve optimal results. PRP can also be done with microneedling for facial treatment and is a great way for individuals to deal with acne scarring, rejuvenation of your skin and hyperpigmentation.

PRP treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that has little or no risk of infection. However, some patients may experience a mild soreness for a few days after the treatment. These symptoms will eventually subside.

Pain and soreness after treatment

Your aesthetic practitioner will give you specific instructions for your post-treatment care. During the first few days after the procedure, you should avoid activities that require you to move the affected area. After the procedure, you will be instructed to avoid strenuous activity, including lifting, for seven days. You should avoid smoking and alcohol for a week before and after the procedure. You should drink at least four eight-ounce glasses of water per day. You should also stay hydrated and follow all of the aftercare instructions provided.
