LIP FILLERS

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW about lip fillers

If you’re on social media, you will have inevitably heard about lip fillers and seen those luscious transformations!

If you’ve never had lip fillers, you may feel nervous about the process which is very normal. As we advise all of our patients, it is always best to make informed decisions so we’re going to talk you through everything here.

Dermal fillers contain substances such as hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced by your body. Over time due to several reasons such as age, you will produce this less which results in a loss of volume or plumpness. The purpose of fillers is to give you the volume you want.  Fillers can help shape, structure and provide volume to your lips!

Due to the nature of the human body, everyone is slightly different so results vary from 6 months to 12 months depending on how quickly your body will metabolise the product.

You can always have more filler added once the filler has left your

body.

The lip area is one of the most sensitive areas on your face and because of this, we will apply numbing cream in the first instance. The procedure itself takes around 15 minutes.

Once we’re established where you would like the volume added, we will start to inject in those areas. The Dermal Fillers are single use, that product will only be used on you, which make it safer as the needles are sterile and the risk of infection is reduced.

There usually is swelling and bruising which can occur due to the area being so sensitive, however it will go down. This again varies person to person, some may find their lips are back to normal the next day whereas someone else may take longer.

There are side effects which can occur with lip fillers:

  • Bleeding at the injection site
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Redness and soreness
  • Cold sores
  • Lip asummetry
  • Lumps – which require a heat compress and massage
  • Infections
  • Scarring
  • Allergic reactions
  • Neucrosis – which is visible blanching or whitening of the skin. Cap refills (push on the skin and count how long it takes for the blood to come back) should be no more than 2/3 seconds, if you find it takes longer than this, you need to have the filler dissolved as a matter of urgency.
